Club Night Monday 10th July

Tutor’s Recap
The key teaching for the evening was set to corners and partner (otherwise known as Hello, Goodbye – setting)

To get this formation sorted we firstly looked at our Pas de basque and moving using our Jete on the left foot, we then did an exercise in a large circle to help us figure out what direction we would be moving in, then we worked in sets and did the same thing with our partner and corners (i.e. we did the actual formation). That was a lot of hard work and you all did really well getting the directions and geography of this tricky formation.

Once we had the formation sorted we used it in College Hornpipe, a dance which will appear on our tropical night programme.

Before all that hard work we started off the night with a couple of dances we have done earlier this year. Crockett’s Victory Garden which was on Kelburn’s dance progamme and Reflections in the Lake which we did the previous week. The reflections looked a bit better with a few more tips from the teacher, although there were still a few ripples on the water that could be smoothed out by another go at this one.

The strathspey for the night was MacDonald of the Isles. A 3 couple dance which starts with the 2nd couple dancing reels of 4 with their first corners then their 2nd corners. The 2nd couple start from the sidelines and finish on the sidelines. A bit of a variation on the reels of 4 we have done to date. Again, this dance will be seen again in a couple of weeks so you might want to swat it up.

After all the hard work we finished the evening with another dance appropriate for a Tropical evening. Beach Dancer. Just watch this one the first two times through – there are a few issues after that!
